One week!

One week!

Boston.com recently had an opportunity for folks to publish reasons “Why I Run.”  Naturally, I had to use part of the same essay I wrote last fall for Chicago Athlete’s “Why Chicago Runs” essay competition.  I’ve linked it here: http://www.boston.com/newsprojects/whyirun/index.php#/story-214 The silly picture is of me from Washington, DC, when I was there last fall for the MCM.

I encourage you to post your reasons for running the Boston marathon.  If you don’t want to post, read others’ stories.  They’re pretty freakin’ awesome and will get you pumped up for our little jaunt on Patriots’ Day… one week from today!

13 Days until my 13th & the Twilight Zone…

13 Days until my 13th & the Twilight Zone…

13 days until my 13th.

Marathon, that is.  (in Austin Powers’ voice) The Boston Marathon, baby!  Very cool.  Very excited, sometimes nervous, but really stoked to be traveling to Beantown soon.

This entry is a bit skittish and without explanation, kinda like our run last Saturday.  It was the FF BB group’s last long (double-digit) run, 13 miles along the lakefront, and for a change of scenery, we ran south to 31st Street.  If you take a look at the map here, you’ll see that it’s a pretty straight-shot from Fleet Feet down south.  Amazingly, it seemed that everyone in our group got folded into some area of the Twilight Zone because though my compatriots and I were in the “back,” we saw NO ONE in front of us until the very end, right when we were about to turn around and head north.  And then, once we got back to the store, most everyone had all but left.  Still not quite sure how this happened, but it made for some interesting conversation along the way.  I don’t think anyone got lost or swept under a Lake Michigan wave, but it’s worth contemplating…

Next up: not much more!!
